FCS to Host East Meets West Concert

The Fort Collins Symphony, under the direction of Maestro Wes Kenney, will host its East Meets West masterworks concert on November 4, 2017 with guest artists from South Korea. The orchestra will play Ludwig van Beethoven’s cherished Piano Concerto No. 5, performed by pianist Ju-Eun Lee. Maestro In-ho Kim will conduct Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3. The evening will conclude with the performance of the traditional Korean folksong, Arirang.

“Elegant yet natural,” “passionate yet deliberate” are some of the terms describing pianist Ju-Eun Lee. Born in South Korea, she attended the Seoul High School of the Arts and was accepted to Yonsei University. She later transferred to Die Hochschule für Musik und Theater München (Germany) where she graduated with highest scores. Ms. Lee went on to study at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, to complete the Magisterium Soloist degree. She returned to Munich to finish her Masterclass and Piano degrees. Ms. Lee was an assistant professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München. She currently holds the professor of piano position at Changwon National University in South Korea.

Maestro In-ho Kim—recognized for his delicate and precise baton techniques, and expressive musicality—actually started his music lessons on the clarinet. Graduating from the Arts College in Music at Changwon University, Maestro Kim finished his Master’s degree in orchestral conducting at Keimyung University. He also studied abroad at the Kazan (Russia) National Conservatory of Music under renowned professor Fuat Mansurov. Maestro Kim currently holds the associate conductor position with the Changwon Philharmonic Orchestra and is the music director for the Gyeongnam Mecenat Philharmonic Orchestra.
