FCSymphony Concludes 68th Season with a Bang!

The Fort Collins Symphony will conclude its 68th Season on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. with percussionist Michael Tetreault performing William Kraft’s Timpani Concerto No. 1. The Masterworks 5 “Fate, Fancy & Fantastic!” concert, under the direction of Maestro Wes Kenney, will also include Jennifer Higdon’s blue cathedral and Peter Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 in F minor.

The Symphony’s Season of Diversity will go out with bang when the orchestra performs the final concert of the 2017-18 Season at the Fort Collins Lincoln Center. The light-filled and ethereal blue cathedral by the Pulitzer Prize and Grammy winner Jennifer Higdon features flute and clarinet solos as well as the playing of exotic bells and crystal wine glasses. The Fort Collins Symphony’s own principal timpanist Michael Tetreault will showcase the many colors of playing timpani with innovative techniques such as using gloves, a variety of mallets, unusual “sticking” and the distinctive glissandos available only on modern pedal timpani. The evening will conclude with Tchaikovsky’s fateful and contemplative Symphony No 4.

Michael Tetreault is principal timpanist of the Fort Collins Symphony and Central City Opera, and percussionist with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic and Boulder Philharmonic. He is also part of the percussion faculty at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Tetreault holds a Bachelor of Music from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York and a Master of Music Degree from the Royal Academy of Music in London, United Kingdom. He has performed domestically and abroad with the London Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal, Colorado Symphony, Utah Symphony, Orchestre de Paris, and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Tetreault has recorded extensively for Albany Records, Warner Bros. Records, Sony Classical, Colorado Public Radio, and the British Broadcasting Corporation, to name a few.
