Ms. Dobbie splits her time as the Director of External Relations at the Energy Institute at Colorado State University and as the Executive Director of the Colorado Energy Research Collaboratory. Located in Fort Collins, the Energy Institute’s mission is to develop innovative solutions to energy challenges that achieve global impact. Since 2008, the Collaboratory is an energy research partnership between Colorado School of Mines, University of Colorado-Boulder, Colorado State University and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Maury’s entrepreneurial career started when she was 19 years of age when she founded and operated six diverse companies holding CEO or Principal positions. Formally, Ms. Dobbie was the President/CEO of a regional not-for-profit economic development corporation in Northern Colorado.
Her understanding in strategic planning, implementation, forming collaborative partnerships, psychology, and people, make her a valued team member in any organization that she is affiliated with. In 1994, Maury founded an award-winning multimedia company which began as a video production company. The company grew into one of the fastest growing companies in Northern Colorado with a web department and live event services.
Maury previously served as a board member on the Northern Colorado Clean Energy Cluster and has been a part of Colorado’s “New Energy Economy” movement for years. She worked with industry partners in founding the development of Colorado State University’s Systems Engineering program and Front Range Community College’s Clean Tech certification program. Ms. Dobbie contributed to the team who wrote, produced and received a $6 million New Energy Economy workforce training grant through the Colorado Department of Labor.
Ms. Dobbie has served on multiple boards of directors. She was past Chair of the governing board, appointed by former Governor Bill Ritter and reappointed by Governor John Hickenlooper, for the Colorado Community College System, made up of 13 community colleges in 32 different locations in the state. In the past, Maury was appointed by former Colorado Governor Bill Owens to serve on two state boards, Colorado Women’s Economic Development Council and the Colorado Film Commission. Her non-partisan methods and attitude has caught the attention of many on both sides of the political spectrum.
Honored for her leadership, she has received numerous business awards including “Entrepreneur of the Year” award by the Northern Colorado Business Report, “Woman Leader of Excellence” in Colorado, “Top 10 Women Making a Difference”, “Creative Vision for Women”, the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) “Women in Business Champion of the Year” and the prestigious national award by Office Depot as “Businesswoman of the Year.” With her Business Administration degree and her 35 years of business experience, Maury brings a wealth of diversity and effective implementation of measurable outcomes to Colorado State University and the Collaboratory. She is currently finishing her MBA from Colorado State University.
Family, her grandchildren, her faith, friends, volunteerism and professional work are a very important part of Maury’s dedication to balance in life. She is happily married to Steve Dobbie and is proud of her two successful grown children with smart, kind and cute kids of their own.
