Kiel Lauer

Kiel Lauer Trombone

Kiel joined the Fort Collins Symphony as the bass trombonist in July 2019. Along with FCS, he plays throughout the region as a member of the San Juan Symphony, Wyoming Symphony, Steamboat Springs Orchestra, Boulder Chamber Orchestra, Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra, and the William and the Romantics Big Band. He also substitutes with other orchestras and groups across the area, including the Denver Municipal Band, Cheyenne Symphony, Boulder Philharmonic, Colorado Ballet, and Colorado Springs Philharmonic.

Kiel received his Doctorate of Trombone Performance and Pedagogy in May 2020 at the University of Colorado Boulder, studying with Dr. William Stanley. His previous degrees come from Michigan State University (MM), studying with Ava Ordman and Curtis Olson, and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (BM), studying with Elliot Chasanov.

Kiel regularly teaches numerous private lessons throughout the state, also serving as a resident private instructor for trombones and euphoniums at Loveland High School and Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Collins.

He doesn’t get too far away from music, but Kiel likes Star Trek, old comedies, video games, and being out in the fresh air when there’s time.

Kiel is available for hire for events and private lessons.
