John Roberts

John Roberts

John Roberts was born and raised in Fort Collins—a true native. He began attending Fort Collins Symphony concerts in 1955 as an 8th grader. Following his graduation from the University of Colorado, he joined the Peace Corps and was sent to Somalia, East Africa. He later joined the U.S. Foreign Service and served in 19 different countries covering all continents except Antarctica.

In 1998, John retired and returned to Fort Collins. He joined the Red Cross Board of Directors, served as President of the Rotary Club of Fort Collins, and is currently on the Board of Trustees with the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado, and Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Global Village Museum of Arts and Cultures, which he helped found. He also teaches international courses at Osher (CSU’s Life Learning Institute of Continuing Education). In his spare time he is a huge sports fan and enjoys the Rockies, Broncos, the Colorado Buffaloes, and the Colorado Eagles. He is also active in his church.

John’s mother taught violin and John has enjoyed classical music his entire life. He’s been fortunate to attend classical music concerts all over the world, due to his extensive travelling to 186 countries throughout his life and career. He maintains that none of these symphonies was as enjoyable or stimulating as our own Fort Collins Symphony. John joined the FCS Board in 2011.
