Dr. Ed Siegel

Pianist Dr. Ed Siegel began playing the piano at age four when, as a daycare student at Colorado State University (then Colorado A & M), he discovered he could play by ear many of the tunes he heard on the radio. Throughout his childhood, he performed at school assemblies and local talent shows, and appeared on local radio stations. Dr. Siegel decided against learning to read notes. He points to his heroes Arthur Rubenstein, Roger Williams, Ferrante and Teicher, Jimmy Durante, the early Liberace, and Victor Borge as having influenced his performance style.

Dr. Siegel graduated from the University of Colorado with a B.A. in English Literature. He went on to receive a Medical Degree from the University of Florida. In 1974, he completed his residency in psychiatry at the University of California-San Diego where he was a Clinical Associate Professor at UCSD. Dr. Siegel has an active private practice in Solana Beach, California.

Dr. Siegel has hosted a weekly singalong in Solana Beach for 33 years. He has performed on stage at New York’s Lincoln Center to an empty auditorium, and to a full house at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Collins, Colorado. He guest conducted the Fort Collins Symphony’s performance of Prelude to Carmen on the 4th of July at City Park in 2015. To begin the Fort Collins Symphony’s 2018-2019 Season, Dr. Siegel lead the audience in singing the Star-Spangled Banner in the key of G, a cause célѐbre to lower the key of the national anthem that he has championed for over two decades. He has given impromptu performances in hotel lobbies in some 87 countries. He has also written a book about his personal spiritual odyssey.

Dr. Siegel is proud to be back in his hometown of Fort Collins to share his performances inspired by the four seasons (not Vivaldi’s version) on a quarterly basis and in support of the Fort Collins Symphony.
