Kathy Murphy, Section Violin
Kathy Murphy received her BA in violin performance from Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas and her MM in violin performance from Colorado State University. She was a member of the Colorado Springs Symphony Orchestra (now Colorado Springs Philharmonic), where she was selected to be in the Colorado Springs Symphony Chamber Orchestra. Her orchestra career also includes being Assistant Concertmaster of both the Wyoming Symphony and Missouri Valley Chamber Orchestra as well as Associate Concertmaster of the Bismarck~Mandan Symphony Orchestra. An active chamber musician, she was most recently a violinist in the North Dakota String Quartet, performing throughout North Dakota.
In addition to performing, Kathy has extensive teaching experience. While in Bismarck, she was on the music faculty at Bismarck State College, and also founded and was Music Director of the Dakota Youth Symphony. A registered Suzuki teacher, she has completed all levels of Suzuki training, teaching at Institutes throughout the Midwest, as well as maintaining large private studios of students, beginners through advanced.
She and her husband, Dan, also a violinist, returned to Fort Collins in 2007 with their three children. Together, they own and operate Murphy Violin Shop, a full service shop for string instruments.
